The coronavirus omicron variant or B.1.1.529 was first detected in 2021. Since then, it has the globe, vanquishing other variants such as Delta. It began to branch into several subvariants: BA.2 and BA.5, which later became the dominant strains. Omicron subvariants B.Q.1 and B.Q.1.1 later became the dominant form of the virus in the U.S.A. Other subvariants such as XBB, BF.7 and BA.5 are still out there. WHO mentions the Omicron variant of Coronavirus as a variant of concern.
